The artist that I looked at was Werner Bronkhorst. He mainly does large artwork that includes giant sweeps of thick paint in the background of his art, with small realistic people painted on top of the thick paint, giving context to the painting. Most of his painting include activities or sports being played. He has stated that he is inspired by David Hockney in his swimming pictures.

I really enjoyed this painting because of the background appearing like land you see out of a plane window. This combines the oversimplified veiw of the ground from super high up with the detailed people who are sitting on the ground, which I thought was very interesting and looked neat.

This piece was from "Forbidden Grass" July 2024

The first piece by Werner Bronkhorst that I saw was a swimming pool with thick paint forming the pool and lane lines between each of the swimmers. The swimmers were small inside each lane, and it really caught my eye because of how it made the pool look giant. Unfortunately, the video I originally saw that included this painting was deleted and I don't have instagram, which is where this painting is posted. Therefore I only have a very bad quality image of the painting. The caption of the post is "Swimming must be one of the most antisocial sports in existence. That's what I love about it." I can't find if this is the actual name or just a caption, though. Overall, I thought this artist's work was innovative and cool looking.
