Career Exploration - Graphic Designer

The career that I am looking at is Graphic Designer. Graphic Designers’ responsibilities are to create visual design to communicate information to their intended audience. To become a graphic designer, you need a bachelor's degree in graphic design. However, if you have a bachelor's degree in a similar field you can still become a graphic designer, you just might require additional training. A regular day for a graphic designer includes research on whatever the graphic designer is designing for, meeting with those the graphic designer is designing for to confirm their designs are to the customer’s liking, and finally, actually designing for their clients. Graphic design is a common major that would provide adequate training for a job as a Graphic Designer. Additionally, any art major would be useful. Relevant programs include graphic design certificate courses which are cheaper than a bachelor’s degree but still are useful in understanding graphic design. Close to Richmond, UVA and UR have good graphic design programs. Some top institutions in terms of graphic design are Rhode Island School of Design, California College of the Arts, and Maryland Institute College of Art.
