Abstract Painting Process Post #1

My abstract painting is going very well so far. I have almost finished my painting I think, although we have about half a class left to work on the paintings. I think I will be able to completely finish my painting in this time to a point where I am happy with the finished product. This project has been an interesting one for me, I don't think I would want to do abstract painting again, but I enjoyed doing it once. I found it surprisingly difficult to think of an idea on the first day we painted. Therefore I decided to just jump into painting and get something on the canvas. This ended up working very well, and by the end of the first day I had a decent foundation to build on as I continued painting. After that, I refined my painting until it looked basically finished. One thing I really liked about abstract painting is that you can just paint over things you don't like and move on. This isn't usually an option with other things, so I thought this was a cool benefit of doing abstraction. Overall, I think abstract painting is an interesting and fun painting method, it just isn't my favorite.
